Cause for concern – unemployment rate continues to increase in Zimbabwe

The nurses’s plight

Some graduates have since resorted to temporary teaching due to lack of employment, while others are jobless. It has become of public concern, with a recent report that there are an estimated 4000 jobless nurses. Especially given that over 2000 graduate nurses country wide are bonded by government, as such remain jobless because of the job freeze policy that was effected in 2010, hence pushing health institutions to froze recruitment. It is for this reason that graduate nurses have once petitioned the Ministry of health and child welfare demanding to be released from the bonds and be allowed to seek employment elsewhere.

However, Herald health reporter, Paidamoyo Chipunza, on sartuday reported that the government confirmed that unemployed trained nurses should register for deployment at the nursing schools they trained following the unfreezing of over 2000 posts for registered general nurses.
Health and child welfare minister, Madzorera said in total there are over 2000 registered posts that are now available and that they will fill these vacancies with trained and qualified nurses who qualified a long time ago, beginning from 2009, 2010 and 2011 before they take those who qualified in 2012.
