THE COSMETIC SURGERY INDUSTRY

FROM BEAUTY TO BEAST

One of many surgery gone wrong
The cosmetic surgery industry has since frowned upon women in Africa. Would you risk your life to meet the ideals of beauty? A question of choice supposedly, but when we have young women who pay to die, so to say, in pursuit of beauty ; would we call it choice, suicide or murder. Food for thought but I guess it might be of public concern. New African Women (Issue 9) told a story on a Nigerian woman Claudia Aderotimi (22) who died following a batched operation to enhance her already amply endowed buttocks. Claudia had a cheap “Industrial” Silicone normally used as a sealant, injected into her buttocks, bloodstream, causing poisoning that led to heart failure.

Media reports claimed Claudia was forced into have the procedure a second time after being dropped from a dance video shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers. She was dead within 12hrs of the procedure. It is said she felt having well, round, shaped buttocks would make her get more roles in hip hop videos. Claudia had to sacrifice a lot to fit in the hip hop industry. Business profits sometimes go along with strings attached. Suddenly we have many adverts on weight loss and gain in Zimpapers and the industry is booming. There is really a demand in the industry and definitely as it goes without saying in business where there is demand there is supply.
